Excerpt: Selling on location - at the beach

Where does everyone go on bank holidays and hot summer weekends? The beach. And what do people do on beaches? Read books. Perfect! So fill your car with books, make a tray with some shoulder straps you can wear, and walk up and down the beach selling your books. Return to your car to restock your tray from time to time.

It's good exercise, gets you out in the sun, and if you pick the right beach you should be able to sell a lot of books, day after day.

Non-fiction books are usually the easiest type of books for self-publishers to sell, but novels are likely to be the most popular with this market.

It's good to present buyers with a (very small) choice, so if you've only written one novel you might like to get together with other self-publishers and sell their novels alongside yours. They can do the same for you in return, and cover other beaches. It's also good to have books for a range of ages (children and teenagers as well as adults) and a range of genres (chick lit, thrillers, mysteries, romances, and so on).

If you don't know any other self-publishers, get to work on your next novel as soon as you can - hopefully you'll have another one ready to sell by next summer.
